I must admit that I argued in favour of giving King a free hand to chart out the course of the country after frustrating years of bad governance by politicians and bureacrats. But it was more of a conditional, and that condition being ---a report card of first three months of King's direct rule towards the progress on setting the path for a good governance and democracy. From all accounts, cabinet formation to corruption control and giving relief to common people and bringing the Maoists to the table, the king's direct rule has shown an abysmal record. One group has gone and another group has taken over with no qualitative difference. No road map yet. Don't know what the future holds for common Nepalis.
Somehow, I still believe that King has the time to get to the people by taking the right course, but the question is, will he do it?
In light of all what is happening, I find Hari Roka's article in the latest issue of NEPAL magazine so timely reminder to all of us who are quick to label people as "rashtrabadi". I think Roka's article is worth pondering. Here are a few paras that are relevant:

".....एक सय चार वर्षसम्म राष्ट्रलाई चुसेर मुलुकवासीलाई साम्राज्यवादी युद्धमा होमेर कमाएको राष्ट्रको समग्र ढुकुटी रित्याएर भारतको कोलकाता, सिमला, बेङ्गलोर, मुम्बईमा सम्पत्ति थुपार्नेहरू अहिले पनि तिनका आँखामा राष्ट्रवादी हुनपुगेका छन् । सन् '५० को दशकदेखि आजका मितिसम्म राष्ट्रको ढुकुटी रित्याएर स्वीस ब्याङ्क र बेलायती ब्याङ्कमा पैसा थुपार्नेहरूलाई राष्ट्रिय एकताको धरोहर ठान्न पुग्छन् ।......"
"............'माघ १९' पछि भूतपूर्व जर्नेलहरूको दिल्लीमा ताँती लाग्यो । नातागोता, इष्टमित्र गुहारिए । रुपियाँले भरिएका अटैची बोकेर पत्रकारहरूलाई किन्ने कोसिस गरियो । भारतीय सुरक्षा छाताभित्र आफू बस्ने सङ्कल्पहरू दोहोर्?याइए । माओवादीको त्रास देखाएर सैन्य सहायताको अपिल गरियो । तिनीहरू नै अहिले राष्ट्रवादको मुकुन्डो भिरेर अर्को दिल्ली सम्झौताको दुहाइ दिइरहेका छन् । जब मुक्ति र शान्तिको दिगो आन्दोलन अगाडि बढ्नेछ, तिनै मान्छेहरू पैसाको बिटो बोकेर दिल्लीतिर छारतोष ठोक्नेछन् । तिनको राष्ट्रवाद भूपू राणा प्रधानमन्त्रीहरू र तिनका सन्ततिहरूको झैँ भारतीय राष्ट्रवादमा विलय हुनेछ ।..."
